I am going to take the directions in English to mean that I can answer in English. Studying the German-speaking cultures affected my view on only Germany's culture. I only have an American's view on World War II and the Holocaust, so it was very informative to learn how Germans view it. My grandparents are German, on my dad's side, and I know for a fact that my grandfather is racist, unfortunately. But learning about German-speaking cultures, or any other culture for that matter, always manages to make me appreciate my own culture somehow.
